The OE error means drain fault — the dishwasher didn't drain within the expected time.
The LG dishwasher displays the OE error and halts the current cycle until the underlying problem is fixed.
Check these in order. The first cause accounts for the majority of OE errors.
The most common cause. Food debris, broken glass, and mineral buildup block the cylindrical filter at the bottom of the tub, restricting water flow to the drain pump.
The drain hose must loop up to at least 20 inches (50cm) before going down to the drain — without a high loop or air gap, water siphons back and the machine can't drain fully.
If the drain hose connects to a garbage disposal, the knockout plug inside the disposal inlet may not have been removed at installation — or food buildup has blocked the inlet over time.
If the filter is clean and the hose is clear, the pump impeller may be jammed with debris or the pump motor may have burned out. Listen for a humming sound during drain — humming with no water movement indicates a jammed pump.
Follow these in order. Stop as soon as the error clears.
Disconnect power at the outlet or breaker before cleaning any internal components.
Remove the lower dish rack. Twist out the cylindrical filter (counterclockwise) and lift out the flat mesh filter beneath it. Rinse both under hot running water, scrubbing away grease and food with a soft brush. Reinstall by pressing flat filter down first, then twisting the cylindrical filter clockwise until it locks.
Pull the dishwasher slightly forward to inspect the drain hose. It should rise to at least 20 inches before descending to the drain or garbage disposal. Secure a high loop with a zip tie if needed.
If your dishwasher drains into a garbage disposal, run the disposal to clear any blockage, then check the disposal inlet port for buildup. If the disposal is new, confirm the knockout plug was removed during installation.
Run a cycle and listen during the drain phase. A humming motor with no water movement indicates a jammed or failed pump impeller. Remove the pump access panel (bottom front), disconnect the pump, and clear any debris from the impeller. If the motor has failed, replace the drain pump assembly.
