The dE error means door switch not detecting door as closed — dryer won't run.
The LG dryer displays the dE error and halts the current cycle until the underlying problem is fixed.
Check these in order. The first cause accounts for the majority of dE errors.
The most common cause — the door needs a firm, deliberate push to fully seat the latch. Try closing from the center of the door.
The plastic latch hook cracks or rounds off with repeated use, preventing solid engagement with the strike.
The switch behind the door frame sends the 'closed' signal to the board. If the switch contacts fail, the board never receives it.
The wire harness running from the door switch can break near the door pivot area after years of opening and closing.
Follow these in order. Stop as soon as the error clears.
Close from the center of the door with moderate force. Listen for the latch click.
Cut power if re-closing doesn't resolve the error.
Examine the plastic latch hooks. Visible cracking or wear = replace the latch.
With machine unplugged, manually push the latch mechanism and listen for a crisp click from the switch.
Disconnect switch wiring and test continuity with latch depressed — should show continuity. OL = failed switch.
LG dryer door latches are typically accessible after removing the front panel or door frame trim and cost $10–25.
