The FE error means over-fill error — water exceeded the safe level in the tub.
The LG dishwasher displays the FE error and halts the current cycle until the underlying problem is fixed.
Check these in order. The first cause accounts for the majority of FE errors.
A failing inlet valve solenoid sticks partially or fully open even after the control board signals it to close, causing continuous water entry.
The overfill float assembly inside the front corner of the tub rises with water level and triggers a safety switch. If the float is stuck down (debris or soap residue), it won't trigger properly.
Some LG dishwashers use a pressure-based water level sensor. If this sensor gives a false 'low' reading, the board keeps filling.
In rare cases the control board itself fails to de-energize the inlet valve. Replace board only after confirming valve and float are good.
Follow these in order. Stop as soon as the error clears.
Close the under-sink supply valve and unplug the dishwasher.
A full power reset may resolve a stuck valve state. Monitor carefully on restart.
Open the door and locate the float at the front-left inside the tub. Press it down and release — it should rise and fall freely. Remove any debris holding it down.
Access the inlet valve at the back of the unit. Look for mineral scale preventing full closure.
Disconnect float switch wiring and test continuity — should change state when float is raised vs. lowered.
Inlet valve replacement (~$30–60) resolves most FE errors. If FE continues after replacement, replace the float switch assembly.
