Samsung Dishwasher LC / LE Error Code: Leak Sensor Fix

Last verified: June 2026  ·  Applies to: Samsung dishwashers

The 30-second answer

The LC error means leak sensor in base pan triggered — water detected in the base of the unit.

What you'll see when this error appears

Dishwasher stops mid-cycleError won't clearMay see water pooling under unit

The Samsung dishwasher displays the LC error and halts the current cycle until the underlying problem is fixed.

Most common causes — in diagnostic order

Check these in order. The first cause accounts for the majority of LC errors.

Most common

Clogged drain causing base overflow

If the drain is blocked, water backs up into the tub, overflows the sump, and drips into the base pan triggering the leak sensor. Clean the drain filter first.

Cause 2

Actual leak from door seal or hose connection

A torn door gasket or loose hose fitting (drain or supply) allows water to drip directly into the base pan during operation.

Cause 3

Spilled liquid entered base pan

Someone cleaning around the dishwasher may have spilled water under the unit, wetting the leak sensor without an actual internal leak. Tilt and dry the base pan.

Less common

Leak sensor stuck in triggered state

In rare cases the sensor float or switch sticks in the triggered position after the water has dried. Accessing and freeing the float resolves this.

Step-by-step fix

Follow these in order. Stop as soon as the error clears.

  1. Unplug the dishwasher immediately

Cut power when a leak error appears — water near electrical components is a safety hazard.

  2. Tilt the unit forward to drain the base pan

With the dishwasher unplugged, carefully tilt it forward ~45° for 30 seconds to drain water from the base pan through the front. Place towels down first.

  3. Inspect under unit with a flashlight

Look for active drips from hoses, the pump housing, or the door seal area.

  4. Check door gasket for tears

Run your finger around the full door gasket. Cracks or loose sections allow water to escape during a cycle.

  5. Inspect all hose connections

Check the supply hose connection at the inlet valve and the drain hose at the pump and garbage disposal/drain. Tighten any loose connections.

  6. Clean the drain filter and retest

Remove and rinse the drain filter inside the tub. Run a short cycle and watch for the source of any leak.
