The tS error means temperature sensor (thermistor) fault — dryer cannot read drum temperature correctly.
The Samsung dryer displays the tS error and halts the current cycle until the underlying problem is fixed.
Check these in order. The first cause accounts for the majority of tS errors.
The thermistor is a temperature-sensitive resistor. It fails either open-circuit (OL on multimeter) or shorted (0Ω), both of which trigger the tS/tC error immediately.
The connector at the thermistor can vibrate loose or corrode, breaking the signal. Reseat the connector before replacing the thermistor.
If the thermistor and wiring test good but the error persists, the control board's NTC input circuit may be damaged — uncommon but possible after a power surge.
Excessive lint accumulation directly on the thermistor can insulate it and cause false temperature readings. Clean the sensor area as part of any thermistor replacement.
Follow these in order. Stop as soon as the error clears.
Cut power before accessing internal components.
The tS/tC thermistor is typically mounted on the exhaust duct inside the drum cavity or rear panel. Refer to your model's wiring diagram if unsure.
Remove the connector and inspect for corrosion or bent pins. Clean with electronics contact spray if corroded.
Measure resistance at room temperature (~25°C). A good NTC thermistor reads approximately 10kΩ. OL or 0Ω = failed, replace it.
Thermistors are inexpensive (~$15–30) and straightforward to replace — usually one screw and a connector.
If you haven't recently cleaned the vent, do so now to prevent future thermal events.
