The dE1 error means lid/door sensor error — lid not detected as locked during spin.
The Samsung top-load washer displays the dE1 error and halts the current cycle until the underlying problem is fixed.
Check these in order. The first cause accounts for the majority of dE1 errors.
The plastic strike attached to the lid must click into the lid lock body on the tub rim. If the strike is slightly out of alignment or the lid is warped, it won't fully engage.
The lid lock solenoid or switch inside the lock body can fail. The lid physically closes but the lock can't engage or signal 'locked' to the control board.
If the lid has been opened forcefully or the machine has been moved, the hinges can bend slightly, causing the lid to close at a slight angle and miss the lock.
The connector between the lid lock and control board can vibrate loose over time, especially in top-loaders. Check the connector is fully seated.
Follow these in order. Stop as soon as the error clears.
Cut power before any inspection.
With power restored, open and shut the lid firmly several times. Sometimes the strike just needs to be reset.
Look at the plastic strike on the underside of the lid. If it's cracked, chipped, or bent, replace it.
Hold the lid and check that it closes evenly. If one side drops lower than the other, the hinges may need adjustment or replacement.
Unplug the machine. Locate the lid lock wiring connector and press it firmly to ensure full seating.
If the lock solenoid tests bad with a multimeter or the lock clicks but doesn't hold, replace the lid lock assembly (~$20–40).
