The F5 E2 error means door latch fault — door not detected as locked at the start of cycle.
The Whirlpool front-load washer displays the F5 E2 error and halts the current cycle until the underlying problem is fixed.
Check these in order. The first cause accounts for the majority of F5 E2 errors.
The latch requires a firm push. If the door bounces back slightly or was pulled shut gently, the latch may not have engaged fully.
A garment trapped in the door seal prevents full closure. Always check the rubber gasket before diagnosing the latch.
The plastic latch hook wears or cracks over time, preventing solid engagement with the door strike.
A failed switch inside the latch assembly won't send the 'closed' signal to the control board, even when the door is physically latched.
Follow these in order. Stop as soon as the error clears.
Open the door and run your hand around the full rubber gasket. Remove any clothing.
Close door with a deliberate push until the latch clicks. Retry start.
Cut power before further inspection.
Look at the latch tongue on the door. Visible cracking or rounded-off hooks = replace.
Disconnect switch connector and test with multimeter — should show continuity when latch is manually depressed.
Replacement is straightforward — accessible through the door frame after removing the trim.
