The tE error means NTC thermistor (water temperature sensor) fault — washer can't read water temperature.
The LG front-load washer displays the tE error and halts the current cycle until the underlying problem is fixed.
Check these in order. The first cause accounts for the majority of tE errors.
The NTC thermistor measures water temperature. Over time the resistance drifts out of range (usually fails open-circuit). A multimeter test will confirm.
The connector at the thermistor end or control board end can vibrate loose in a washing machine. Reseat both ends before replacing the sensor.
If the heater element is broken, water never warms up, and the control board eventually throws tE because the expected temp rise never happens.
If the thermistor tests fine and is connected properly but tE persists, the control board's thermistor input circuit may be damaged.
Follow these in order. Stop as soon as the error clears.
Cut power before accessing the tub assembly.
On LG front-loaders, the NTC sensor is typically mounted on the tub near the heater element — accessible through the front panel after removing the boot seal.
Disconnect the thermistor connector. Measure resistance: at ~25°C (77°F) it should read approximately 10kΩ. OL or near-zero = replace.
Inspect the connector for corrosion or bent pins. Check the harness for cuts near door hinge routing points.
Disconnect the heater element leads and test resistance. A good element reads 20–30Ω. OL = broken element.
Replace whichever part tested bad — thermistor (~$15–30) or heater element (~$30–60).
