The E2 error means door not detected as closed — door switch or latch fault.
The Samsung front-load washer displays the E2 error and halts the current cycle until the underlying problem is fixed.
Check these in order. The first cause accounts for the majority of E2 errors.
A sock or garment caught in the rubber door gasket prevents the latch from fully engaging. Open the door, inspect the seal all the way around, and remove any obstructions.
The plastic latch hook can crack or wear down over time, preventing it from fully engaging the strike plate on the tub frame. Inspect with a flashlight.
Even when the latch clicks closed, a failed door switch won't send the 'door closed' signal to the control board. Test switch continuity with a multimeter.
The wiring between the door switch and control board can chafe or break near the door hinge pivot point after repeated use. Inspect the harness for cuts or loose connectors.
Follow these in order. Stop as soon as the error clears.
Cut power before inspecting any components.
Open the door and carefully run your hand around the entire rubber gasket. Remove any clothing or debris.
Push the door until you hear the latch click. Sometimes the door simply needs a firm push.
Look at the plastic latch hook and the strike on the tub rim. Cracks or broken hooks are visible and indicate latch replacement is needed.
With the machine unplugged, disconnect the door switch wiring connector and test across switch terminals with a multimeter. Should show continuity when latch is manually depressed.
If the latch or switch tests bad, replace the door latch assembly. Most Samsung front-load latch assemblies are tool-removable in under 20 minutes.
